History:
Genetic scientists Mark and Marie Logan moved themselves and their young son, Garfield, to the African nation of Upper Lamumba to conduct experiments on a rare breed of green monkey. The monkey's blood, when infected by a virus then known only as Sakutia, could destroy a human's immune system. The Logans were searching for a common genetic link between humans and animals in order to find a cure not only for Sakutia, but for all diseases. They believed that experimentation on animals would eventually lead to a disease-free world for humans.

During their experiments, the monkey escaped and bit the Logans' child. Gar swiftly contracted Sakutia and was about to die when the Logans treated their child with an experimental machine that would alter a human's DNA and provide increased immunity to the Sakutia virus.

Garfield was cured, but the DNA changes in his body caused an eerie metamorphosis. Beyond his skin's taking on the monkey's green pigmentation, Garfield learned his body could reshape itself into the form of any animal he could visualize. With little more than a clear picture of an animal in mind, Garfield Logan can become a green-hued version of that beast. Mass and weight are altered so he can assume the form of either creatures as small as a worm or as large as an elephant.

The Logans continued their research until both Mark and Marie were accidentally killed in a boating accident. Garfield was then raised by King Tawaba, the chief of a nearby tribe the Logans had previously befriended.

The young Gar Logan entertained his friends in the tribe with his shape-shifting powers until world of his bizarre abilities reached beyond the village confines.

Hearing of Gar's powers, criminals kidnapped him and used the boy to commit various crimes before they were killed and Gar escaped.

Gar Logan and the trust fund set up by his parents were then given over to Jeremiah Galtry, his unscrupulous guardian, who proceeded to steal Gar's money. Gar tried to leave Galtry but remained until he met Rita Farr, Elasti-Girl of the Doom Patrol, and her new husband, millionaire Steve Dayton. Dayton and Farr went to court to free Garfield from Galtry's guardianship. They won their case and soon adopted the young boy.

Garfield, calling himself Beast Boy, then joined the Doom Patrol becoming fast friends with the DP's Robotman, and fought alongside the group until Farr was killed in a battle with the Brotherhood of Evil.

Gar left home and traveled to Hollywood where he became an actor in the television show Space Trek, 2022, playing an alien metamorph named Tork. Both Gar's acting ability and the show's episodes were less than memorable, and soon Gar found himself out of a job and looking for a place to stay.

Gar moved back with his stepfather. When he learned that the Teen Titans, a group of heroic teen-agers who fought crimes, was reforming, he applied for and became a charter member of the new group. He renamed himself Changeling and he works with the New Titans to this day.

Powers:
Garfield Logan can change his form into the shape of any animal he can visualize, thereby gaining that animal's strength and/or abilities. The larger the animal he becomes, the more energy it takes to maintain his form. Quick changes between animal forms also weaken him.
