The Guide to DC Giants
Deluxe Reprint Series

In the early 1980s, DC was changing their giant formats. In 1982 they began publishing Annuals featuring all-new material. Trade Paperbacks were not yet being used to publish reprint material, so DC launched a series of Deluxe Reprints. These titles were all published on high quality baxter paper and most were devoted to classic runs of the 1970s. Many spotlighted material by popular artists such as Neal Adams. Instead of ads, the collections would often include backup stories by the same artist responsible for the lead feature. The first of these reprint titles was Green Lantern/Green Arrow in 1983. The final series in this format was the Best of the Brave and the Bold, published in 1988. In the late 1980s, Trade Paperbacks emerged as the preferred method to reprint classic material and the Deluxe Reprint Series came to an end.
