The Guide to DC Giants
64/48-Page Giants

In 1975, DC abandoned their 100-Page Super Spectacular format in favor of a smaller giant size. The result was a 64-page squarebound giant for 50¢.

Like their 100-Page predecessors, the 64-Page Giants were used for both one-shot Giants (such as Wonder Woman #217) and ongoing series like Superman Family. DC also revived DC Special in 64-Page Giant format after a 4 year hiatus.

Within a few months, DC expanded the number of 64-Page Giants with three additional "family" giants patterned after Superman Family. The new titles: Batman Family, Super-Team Family, and Tarzan Family debuted in late 1975. Super-Team Family would continue until 1978 when it was replaced by DC Comics Presents.

Additional titles were added in the 64/48-Page Giant formet including: DC Super Stars and Four Star Spectacular. Several issues of DC Special Series were also published in the 48-Page Giant format.

In 1976, DC dropped the page count and changed bindings on the 64-Page Giants to 48 saddle-stitched pages. A year later they increased the price from 50¢ to 60¢.

In 1978, DC planned a large line expansion for all their books called the DC Explosion. Standard titles jumped from 32 pages for 35¢ to 40 pages for 50¢. DC eliminated the 48-Page Giant format and DC's Dollar Comics became the only Giant format.
